class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><strong>Samuel Allerton<\/strong> (\u00b01976) est n\u00e9 au Cap Est en Afrique du Sud. Apr\u00e8s une enfance insouciante sur les rives de la rivi\u00e8re Bonza Bay, sa famille s\u2019installe dans une ferme, entour\u00e9e par de grands espaces ouverts. Il \u00e9tait le deuxi\u00e8me fils d\u2019 une famille musicale \u00e0 quatre enfants. Samuel excellait dans le jeu du violoncelle. Son p\u00e8re et beaucoup de membres de sa famille sont des m\u00e9decins. Samuel se souvient bien des moments agr\u00e9ables avec son p\u00e8re \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4pital, o\u00f9 il le regardait op\u00e9rer. C\u2019\u00e9tait le d\u00e9but de sa fascination pour l\u2019anatomie humaine. D\u00e8s son plus jeune \u00e2ge, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 passionn\u00e9 par l\u2019art et la nature, deux \u00e9l\u00e9ments qui continuent \u00e0 influencer sa vie et son \u0153uvre.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Il a toujours eu un c\u00f4t\u00e9 rebelle et cr\u00e9atif, d\u00e8s son plus jeune \u00e2ge. Ainsi il a fini ses \u00e9tudes secondaires avec une distinction en art et en musique. Samuel n\u2019\u00e9tait pas du tout fait pour une carri\u00e8re en m\u00e9decine et il partait pour \u00e9tudier au Royaume Uni. L\u00e0, il a suivi des cours \u00e0 l\u2019Ampleforth College et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole d\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00e9cole Slade \u00e0 Londres. Il \u00e9tait \u00e9vident qu\u2019il avait un avenir en arts cr\u00e9atifs.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s son retour en <strong>Afrique du Sud<\/strong>, il a obtenu son Honours degree \u00e0 la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre Michaelis School of Art de l\u2019universit\u00e9 du Cap. Il pouvait y exp\u00e9rimenter librement et se familiariser avec les diff\u00e9rents m\u00e9dias artistiques, allant de la photographie et travailler dans une chambre noire, aux extraordinaires merveilles de couler le bronze. Toutes ses exp\u00e9rimentations \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9, l\u2019ont men\u00e9 vers l\u2019usage <strong>du bronze, du bois et de la pierre<\/strong>. On les retrouve d\u00e9j\u00e0 dans ses \u0153uvres d\u2019\u00e9tudiant. Il a obtenu son dipl\u00f4me avec distinction et il \u00e9tait pr\u00eat pour une carri\u00e8re de <strong>sculpteur<\/strong>. Au d\u00e9but il travaillait surtout sur commission, pour les clients de certains architectes et d\u00e9corateurs. Tr\u00e8s vite il a \u00e9t\u00e9 contact\u00e9 par des galeristes int\u00e9ress\u00e9s \u00e0 repr\u00e9senter ses \u0153uvres. Au d\u00e9but de sa carri\u00e8re, il a compl\u00e9t\u00e9 les revenus de ses sculptures avec le mannequinat. Il a m\u00eame gagn\u00e9 le concours Men\u2019s Health Look et il a travaill\u00e9 dans l\u2019industrie du cin\u00e9ma.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Samuel s\u2019inspire surtout <strong>des animaux, de la nature et des espaces sauvages<\/strong>. La relation entre l\u2019homme et la nature est clairement pr\u00e9sente dans son travail d\u2019artiste. Son \u0153uvre d\u2019art peut \u00eatre un hommage apparent \u00e0 la nature, ou bien une lutte pour sa protection, en utilisant la critique sociale. Et il attire l\u2019attention sur l\u2019horrible abus ainsi que sur la n\u00e9gligence de la nature par l\u2019homme.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ainsi il a visit\u00e9 la r\u00e9serve Niassa au <strong>Mozambique.<\/strong> Avec le mat\u00e9riel naturel qu\u2019il a trouv\u00e9 l\u00e0-bas, il a cr\u00e9\u00e9 une s\u00e9rie de sculptures, en r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 la destruction par l\u2019industrie du bois et \u00e0 la guerre contre le braconnage, dont il a \u00e9t\u00e9 t\u00e9moin dans la r\u00e9serve.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Plus r\u00e9cemment, il s\u2019est rendu au parc national des <strong>Virunga au Congo,<\/strong> o\u00f9 il a observ\u00e9 les derniers gorilles des montagnes dans leur habitat naturel. L\u2019habitat fragile de ces doux g\u00e9ants est fortement menac\u00e9 par les activit\u00e9s humaines et le braconnage. Ses sculptures ont tendance \u00e0 \u00eatre simples, contemplatives et solennelles. Elles sont inspir\u00e9es par des artistes comme Mark Rothko, Henry Moore, Anthony Gormley, Isamu Naguchi et Brancusi. Ses dessins et peintures, en revanche, sont directs, des explosions impulsives, qui sont soit des appels \u00e0 l\u2019aide pour le monde, soit des r\u00e9primandes aux hommes, pour leurs hypocrisies et leurs injustices \u00e9clatantes envers la nature et entre eux.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ces \u0153uvres sont plus agressives, ouvertes et explicites. Les dessins sont honn\u00eates, souvent troublants et toujours intimes. Samuel combine le symbolisme excentrique, <strong>primitif et contemporain<\/strong>, la sentimentalit\u00e9 et les \u00e9motions volontaires avec \u2018tenter d\u2019atteindre l\u2019universel par une touche personnelle\u2019. Ses sculptures refl\u00e8tent une approche contemplative simple avec une contradiction ludique, ce qui rend ses \u0153uvres d\u2019art originales tout en d\u00e9fiant le spectateur. En m\u00eame temps elles d\u00e9gagent l\u2019\u00e9nergie d\u2019une source primitive intemporelle.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Aujourd\u2019hui, il vit et travaille \u00e0 <strong>Franschhoek<\/strong>, un village dans les Cape Winelands. Son atelier se trouve dans la vall\u00e9e Banhoek, entour\u00e9e par les montagnes majestueuses Jonkershoek. Il y r\u00e9side avec sa femme Heike, \u00e9galement artiste, et leurs deux adolescents Noa et Tyler.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lorsqu\u2019il ne travaille pas dans son atelier, on peut le trouver dans l\u2019oc\u00e9an, o\u00f9 il aime surfer et plonger en apn\u00e9e. Ou bien il explore les superbes montagnes environnantes du Cap occidental, accompagn\u00e9 de son chien fid\u00e8le, Mobi.<span
